To tighten butterfly backs, or to adjust them for use on smaller posts, firstly apply pressure with your thumb and forefinger to both sides of the 'butterfly' and squeeze gently. If further tightening is required, with a pair of round-nose pliers, place the nose of the pliers into the butterfly and squeeze to tighten. A word of caution; if you have sprung pliers, please be wary of them springing outwards, this will loosen the 'butterfly's' grip.
